In Celebration of Chairman Jim Diffley's Life of Service

Delta Community board member Jim Diffley

Delta Community is deeply saddened by the passing of Jim Diffley, the Credit Union's longtime Chairman of the Board of Directors. Jim passed away on September 22, 2024, at the age of 90 in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, surrounded by family.

Jim's remarkable service to Delta Community spanned more than 60 years. He joined the Credit Committee in 1962 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 1983. In 1986, Jim became Chairman of the Board, a role he held through annual elections until his passing.

“Jim's contributions to Delta Community's success are immeasurable,” said Hank Halter, Chief Executive Officer. “He believed deeply in the credit union philosophy of people helping people, and his work has made a lasting impact on our members and the broader community.”

Jim was also an active advocate for credit unions nationally and internationally. He was involved with the Georgia Credit Union Affiliates, the National Credit Union Association and the World Council of Credit Unions. In 2017, he was honored with the Moses C. Davis Lifetime Achievement Award for his lifelong dedication to the credit union movement.

Born in Atlanta, Jim graduated from Georgia Tech and earned an M.B.A. from Georgia State University. He served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force before working at Delta Air Lines for 40 years in managerial roles within the Technical Operations Center.

Our condolences are with Jim's family, and his legacy of service will continue to inspire for generations to come. Linda O'Shea, in her capacity as Vice Chairwoman, will assume additional responsibilities as needed until the Board elects a new Chairperson in accordance with Delta Community's bylaws.
