The Sheltering Arms Center in the East Lake neighborhood of Atlanta recently received a visit from Delta Community Credit Union employees who presented the organization with $1,500.

The sponsorship award went toward “Embrace Early & Create the Future,” Sheltering Arm’s largest annual fundraiser. The organization’s website states that it focuses on providing local families with high-quality early childhood education. A Delta Community Credit Union spokesperson said the organization will use proceeds from the event to pay for various programs, facility costs, and educational materials for its 13 centers across metro Atlanta. In addition to the DeKalb-based center in East Lake, Sheltering Arms also operates a facility in Chamblee.

“Early childhood education is essential to a child’s development and success,” said Nas Green, event and volunteer manager at Sheltering Arms. “We are thankful for Delta Community Credit Union’s support in helping us provide local families with resources they need to give their children a solid educational start.”

Sheltering Arms and Delta Community have had nearly a decade-long partnership, according to a news release. To further foster that relationship, the organization invited credit union employees to spend a morning with students at its East Lake location.

During the visit, employees read a book to approximately 30 pre-K students at the center and assisted with an arts and crafts activity. The children heard a book titled Wemberly Worried, a story about overcoming feelings of worry and anxiety. Afterward, the children made emotional support dolls, a complementary activity to the storybook. In addition, students received coloring books and desk supplies from the credit union.
