What is a contactless card?
-
It is a card that uses tap to pay technology which allows for close-range, contactless transactions at checkout. If contactless payment terminals aren’t available at a particular merchant, you can still swipe or insert your card into the chip reader to complete your purchase.
-
Is tapping to pay secure?
-
Yes, tapping to pay is secure! Your Delta Community Visa contactless chip card has the same security as a Visa contact chip card. Each tap to pay transaction generates a transaction-specific code, just like with a contact chip card. And, you can’t pay accidentally because your contactless card (or payment-enabled mobile device) must be within 2 inches of the terminal for the transaction to take place. And, you can always use transaction controls in our Card Management tool to place restrictions on contactless transactions.
-
Which Delta Community Visa cards come with contactless technology?
-
Delta Community consumer Visa Debit Cards, Platinum Rewards and Visa Signature Credit Cards come with contactless technology.
-
How do I know if I can tap to pay with my card?
-
Look for the Contactless Indicator
on your card to know you can use it to tap to pay.
-
Do I need to use the contactless functionality on my card for all purchases?
-
No, you can still use your card by inserting or swiping, whether or not the contactless option is available on the terminal. And remember to load your Delta Community Debit and Credit Cards to your mobile wallet so you can tap to pay even when you don’t have your physical card with you!
-
What do the symbols mean?
-
When you see this symbol on your card, it means your card has the capability to make contactless payments. When you see it on store signage, it means a merchant accepts tapping to pay.
When you see this symbol at a merchant, it means they accept contactless payments, with physical cards and with mobile wallets. When you see it on a checkout terminal, it shows where you should tap.
-
Do I actually have to tap my card on the contactless-enabled terminal?
-
No, actual tapping isn’t usually necessary. You can either tap or hold your card close (usually 1 to 2 inches) to the Contactless Symbol
on the contactless-enabled terminal.
-
How should I hold the contactless card when making a payment?
-
The contactless-enabled terminals read the card best when it is flat over the Contactless Symbol, versus at an angle.
-
How close should a contactless card be to a contactless capable terminal in order for the terminal to read the card?
-
Your card should be within 1 to 2 inches of the Contactless Symbol on the terminal. It may also be placed on the Contactless Symbol on the terminal until the transaction is complete (typically 1 to 2 seconds).
-
Can I unknowingly make a purchase if I am in close proximity to a contactless-enabled payment terminal?
-
This is very unlikely. The technology behind tapping to pay requires the merchant to initiate the payment. And, the contactless card must be either tapped or held within 2 inches of the contactless-enabled terminal in order for a transaction to take place. Finally, remember that you are protected from fraud losses and unauthorized purchases with Visa’s Zero Liability Policy*.
-
Can I be charged more than once for the same purchase if I use a contactless card?
-
No, you won’t be billed twice even if you accidently tap twice.
-
