What is the difference between a cashier's check & an official check?
Both types of checks are guaranteed funds. At this time the credit union only issues Official Checks for our members.
An official check is one that is issued by a financial institution on the members behalf that serves as a guarantee of funds. The funds are first withdrawn from the members account before the check is issued. These checks are issued as official financial institution checks and signed by the institution’s representative.
Typically people use official checks because they are requested by the merchant as a form of payment. Merchants request official checks to ensure that they are receiving verifiable funds since funds from personal checks might not always be available.
